Report of Current Situation
Dry conditions continued to be experienced over many parts of northern region. Widespread hotspots were mainly detected over Cambodia and northern Viet Nam while scattered hotspots were detected in Myanmar, Lao PDR and Thailand.
On 8 February 2010, air quality index (AQI) reading recorded good level in Nonthaburi, Samut Sakorn, Phuket and Hatyai, and moderate level in the rest of the country.
In the period of 1 February to 7 February 2010, most hotspots were detected in Cambodia (682) followed by Thailand (501). The highest number of hotspots was detected on 7 February 2010 in Cambodia (327).
Based on FDRS reading, all fine fuels will easily ignite, potentially resulting in many fires in most parts of Thailand, parts of Lao PDR, most parts of Viet Nam, parts of Peninsular Malaysia, parts of Sumatra and parts of Borneo. Most fine fuels will easily ignite in parts of Sumatra. In mixed fuels, severe drought conditions and high-intensity fires can occur in parts of Thailand and parts of Viet Nam. In mixed fuels, moderate intensity fires can occur in parts of Thailand, parts of Peninsular Malaysia and parts of Borneo. Peat areas will produce widespread and severe haze in most parts of Thailand, Lao PDR, Viet Nam. Smoldering in drained peat areas is possible in Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo.
